OEK Announcement 31 03 22 on protective measures against Covid 19
ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CYPRUS ONCOLOGICAL SOCIETY (OEK)
Following a complaint about the protective measures taken due to the Covid-19 pandemic in hospitals and the isolation of patients, with special reference to cancer patients and the Oncology Department of the Nicosia General Hospital, the Cyprus Oncology Society (OEK), expressing its sympathy to the families of the patients, would like to note that the measures aim to avoid the spread of the pandemic within hospitals and in particular in oncology departments that treat immunosuppressed patients.
The Greek Association of Public Health (OEK) expresses its appreciation and support for health professionals who perform an extremely difficult task conscientiously, having, among other things, the thankless role of implementing, as they are obliged to do, the protective measures announced by the State, which from a scientific point of view are absolutely correct since they are based on recommendations from international organizations and are applied internationally.
Furthermore, OEK notes the reference to the different treatment that a cancer patient and his family received, regarding the visiting hours and the protective measures at the “Arodafnoussa” Palliative Care Center, and emphasizes that immunosuppressed patients, who require greater protection, are not hospitalized in Palliative Care Centers. This fact highlights the need to make more beds available for the hospitalization of terminally ill oncological patients in Palliative Care Centers.
