ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CYPRUS ONCOLOGICAL SOCIETY (OEK) – 21/11/2023

COMMUNICATION

Regarding the issue of the creation of the National Cancer Institute and the debate that arose in the House of Representatives on this matter, the Cyprus Oncology Society (OEK) would like to reiterate that:

• Adopts the updated National Cancer Strategy of 2019
• Supports the efforts of the National Cancer Committee to implement the Strategy.
• It recognizes the need to create a National Cancer Institute, which will aim to organize and coordinate all oncology services and activities.
• It is expected that the IRC will help improve all pillars related to cancer, namely prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, palliative care, research and education, serving patients and their families, healthcare professionals and researchers in the best possible way.

Taking into account the above, OEK expects the state, political parties and all involved bodies and organizations to support the effort to create the National Cancer Institute.
