ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CYPRUS ONCOLOGICAL SOCIETY (OEK)

In view of the start of the Covid-19 vaccinations, the Cyprus Oncology Society (OEK) wishes to express its full support for the vaccination program and to encourage the public to get vaccinated, as it is currently the only hope of stopping the pandemic. The OEK considers the vaccine safe and can demonstrably prevent deaths, as it mitigates the intensity of the symptoms of the Covid-19 disease.

The Hellenic Cancer Society recommends that oncology patients, including those receiving oncology treatments and who may be immunosuppressed, proceed with vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. According to existing scientific data, receiving anti-cancer treatment, systemic therapy and/or radiotherapy is not a contraindication for receiving this vaccine.

Patients with particular problems or any questions are encouraged to contact the treating Oncologists.

Regardless of and beyond the vaccine, OEK recommends continuing to take individual protection measures.
