ANNOUNCEMENT – ONCOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF CYPRUS OEK – 09/07/2020
ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE CYPRUS ONCOLOGICAL SOCIETY
The Cyprus Oncology Society condemns the way an oncologist chose to denounce a colleague. The tactic of publishing unsubstantiated allegations on social media is unacceptable and condemnable. Equally unacceptable is the slander of doctors through unsubstantiated allegations, casting shadows on their ethics and professional integrity.
The right to report and express a complaint by both citizens and doctors is fully respected, as long as it is exercised through the ethically and legally correct path, which is offered by the institutional body of doctors, the Pancyprian Medical Association (PMAS).
Public condemnation of colleagues through social media, which unfortunately turn into people’s courts, is an insult to the entire medical community.
This particular post, in addition to being condemnable, leaves the doctor in question ethically exposed, a fact that cannot go unnoticed.
