The meeting unanimously decided as follows:
Resolution of the General Assembly of the Cyprus Oncology Society (C.E.S.)
The General Assembly of the Cyprus Oncology Society (COS) reaffirmed its support for the implementation of a universal and functional General Health Plan for the benefit of patients. The implementation of the General Health Plan is a right of citizens and an obligation of the state and the institutions involved in health issues.
At the same time, he believes that in the proposed GHS there are pending issues and ambiguities that mainly concern secondary, tertiary and in-hospital medical care, the resolution of which is postponed to the future. The publicity that has been given to the issue of medical fees has unfortunately overshadowed the extremely serious issue of the provision of quality care by the GHS, despite the efforts of the P.I.S. and the medical scientific societies to highlight the issue. Issues such as treatment protocols, the recording or adoption of treatment guidelines, the operation of interdisciplinary teams, the provision of high-quality consumables, the provision of the latest scientifically documented pharmaceutical treatments, the provision of state-of-the-art medical equipment, as well as quality control issues should be addressed and discussed.
Therefore, OEK, as a representative of the tertiary medical care specialty, calls on the bodies involved, the Ministry of Health, the OAY, the PIS and the PASIN, to return to dialogue with a willingness to make changes and with the aim of finding commonly acceptable positions, taking seriously the concerns of the medical world.
